Artist

Born in Bari in 1973, Renzo Francabandera lives and works in Bologna.

After collaborating with the weekly satirical Heart and The Boxer-poster beginning of the nineties, he gained the artistic career with a strong vocation for image creation, refining the painting experience with master classes including those in Milan with Prof.. Italo Chiodi, chair of drawing at the Brera Academy and developing an original path between live performance and reuse of materials that he mixes in a continuous collage of his artistic practice.

Realize illustrations and covers for the publishing industry, he has created training projects for universities and schools and taken part in various European projects.

He writes for numerous newspapers as a theater critic, including the quarterly Hystrio and the daily theater information newspaper paneacquaculture.net, who heads.

His drawings are published by various magazines and publishing houses and he has created sets for theater shows.

He has exhibited in Italy and abroad, e sue live performances, labs and personal exhibitions were hosted at Maschio Angioino and PAN (Naples 2010) and at the Biennale Theater (Venezia 2011), Milano (Officine Creative Ansaldo 2013, Small Theater 2014), Genoa (Palazzo Fieschi, Sestri 2013), Verona (Scientific Theater, 2017-18), Milano – (Zone K 2016/17/18, Franco Parenti Theatre, Teatro MTM), Bologna (Cue Press 2022).

He has taught performing arts and movement aesthetics at the University of Turin since 2016 al 2022 and from 2022 teaches image theory and teaching at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

He holds audience development courses and projects throughout Italy, accessible art and performative and digital social art.

In the early ’90s worked for national satirical newspapers such as Cuore and Boxer (The poster). Currently he writes about theatre and arts.

(He attended a two years masterclass with Italo Chiodi (drawing at Brera Academy, Milan), developing a personal research in live painting, collage, reuse and drawing live performances.

He creates illustrations and covers for publishing, has carried out training projects for universities and schools and has taken part in various European projects.

During the last years some exhibitions and live painting performances took place, amongst the others, in Milan (Officine Creative Ansaldo 2013, Small Theater 2014), Genoa (Palazzo Fieschi 2013), Lugano (SUI), Naples (PAN – Palazzo delle Arti and Maschio Angioino 2010) and Venice (Biennale Theater 2011), Verona (2017-18), Milano – (Zone K 2016/17/18, Franco Parenti Theatre, Teatro MTM), Bologna (2022).

He holds labs, courses and projects on audience development, accessible art and performative and digital social art throughout Italy.
